San Carlos Transmission Repair & Service

A+ Japanese Auto Repair Inc. can help you get the most mileage out of your transmission. The best way to do this is to make sure your transmission fluid is in excellent condition. The fluid in an automatic transmission and a manual transmission has many important jobs to perform. The life of your transmission has a direct correlation with the fluid being clean and in good condition. Fluid should be changed at the regular time and mileage interval specified in the owner's manual. At A+ Japanese Auto Repair we check the fluid level and condition at each service performed. Below is an example of the color of dirty fluid vs. new fluid (Fig A.) The fluid color and smell of the fluid can tell us a lot about the condition of your vehicles transmission fluid.

Transmission Fluid - Transmission Oil:

Unlike your vehicles engine, where all the old can be drained out, a lot of the transmission fluid doesn't drain into the transmission pan. Instead it stays in the torque converter, valve body and transmission cooler lines making a complete fluid drain impossible. In fact, the typical transmission service only replaces 50% of the contaminated fluid, leaving behind 50% contaminated fluid to mix with the new ATF. With this understanding you can see how regular maintenance is essential for the life of your vehicles transmission. Below in (Fig B.) is an image of the inside of a transmission torque converter. You can see the tarnish, and sludge that has caused the clients transmission to need replacing versus the transmission that has no build up due to regular transmission fluid services being performed. The transmission that has been maintained on a regular basis looks brand new inside, even to the eyes of our mechanics.

Transmission Rebuild or Replacement ?

A+ Japanese Auto Repair was informed by the Automatic Transmission Rebuilds Association that nine out of ten transmission failures are due to overheating and fluid contamination. Just like the oil in a cars engine, automatic transmission fluid suffers from heat, friction, oxidation and electrochemical degradation. Once this process starts, a transmission's vital parts begin to clog with sludge and varnish deposits. This can all be prevented by performing transmission fluid changes at the recommended intervals at A+ Japanese Auto Repair Inc.

If a cars transmission is showing any signs of contaminated transmission fluid slippage, rough or hard shifting this service is the first thing you should try. If you are an A+ Japanese Auto Repair client you will be aware of the necessity of the transmission service at regular intervals. Our philosophy on auto repair has always been preventative maintenance. As you can tell preventative maintenance on your transmission is one of the best practices you can do to extend the life of your transmission.
