A+ Japanese Auto Repair, Inc.
I recently brought in my 2007 FJ Cruiser (220,000 miles) to A+ Japanese Auto Repair to rotate my tires, get an oil change, and get the car a once over. When I got the call from Justin (The Customer Service Rep) that there was a "weird noise" coming from the differential, I started to panic. In the past, I've had horrible experiences with car shops, where I was taken advantage for my ignorance regarding cars, but this experience was different. Justin patiently talked through what his technicians thought was possibly wrong, explained that it was going to cost more to determine what was wrong, and depending on what they found, let me know that it could cost quite a bit to repair. He took the time to explain in plain English what a differential was, its purpose, and why it was so important in the functioning of the vehicle. He went so far as to say that I should have that looked at and repaired before I spend money on any other thing on the car. Turns out it was the gears and bearings in my rear differential that needed to be overhauled. This ended up being much more than I had expected to spend when I first came in, especially when I didn't even think anything was wrong. When I finally did drive my home, I immediately noticed some huge differences. When I first took my foot off the gas pedal, I jerked my foot over to the brake pedal because I was so surprised that it didn't immediately slow down like it had previously. There was also this lack of a sound, which was not all that different from the sound of a car downshifting. (That sound no longer exists) I think that while driving so much over the past 11 years, I convinced myself that it had always made all these extra sounds, and that it was supposed to slow down when I took my foot off the gas, all because it was a 4x4. I couldn't believe the difference and was beating myself up over the fact that I hadn't noticed this subtle degradation that occurring the whole time. My FJ now drives incredibly well and I can't wait to put another 200,000 miles on it. ALSO: -Justin provided me with a loaner Prius for the entire time they had my car. (At no cost) -He kept me posted on the progress every couple of days. -Replaced a burned out bulb. (At not cost) -Had my car washed before I picked it up (with Armor All on the tires) -Provided a printout with comprehensive explanations of everything that was done and the itemized costs. I think it's worth mentioning that Justin, along with the entire staff at A+, is incredibly nice, and I wholeheartedly give them my highest recommendation.
